Wind power generators are proposed to be exempt from import duties
At the end of July, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine registered Draft Law No. 11455 on Amendments to the Customs Code of Ukraine to Facilitate the Restoration of Alternative Energy Infrastructure of Ukraine.
Thus, the draft law proposes to exempt wind power generating units classified under code 8502 31 00 00 according to the Ukrainian Classification of Foreign Economic Activity from import duty.
The European Business Association supports this draft law. It will reduce the cost of wind power generators, increasing the availability of such goods, and will facilitate the faster restoration and expansion of wind power capacity.
According to business representatives, wind power plants, given their specifics and construction technology, are decentralized electricity facilities. The distance between the wind turbines of one power plant is usually 800 meters, which makes such power plants a more difficult and expensive target for an enemy attack. For example, the damage to a single wind turbine can result in the loss of up to 8 MW of capacity, while in the case of thermal power plants, the damage to a single facility often means the loss of 200 MW of capacity.
Accordingly, scaling up wind power in Ukraine will reduce dependence on traditional energy sources, which are more vulnerable to external attacks, and help stabilize the country's energy supply.
In addition, the construction of wind farms is in line with the country's strategy to develop a decentralized energy system based on renewable energy sources, and contributes to Ukraine's fulfillment of its obligations to the European Union regarding the goals of green transition and decarbonization.
Therefore, the business appeals to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy, Housing and Utilities Andriy Gerus, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy Danylo Hetmantsev and the Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko to support this draft law as soon as possible!
