NBU to limit p2p transfers for individuals: decision to be made by the end of the week

The National Bank plans to finalize the decision to restrict p2p transfers for individuals by the end of the week to combat drop schemes, Ekonomichna Pravda reports.

This was stated by NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyi in an interview with the newspaper.

According to him, the NBU is finalizing the final decision, and next week (the week of August 12-18 - EP) we will consider it at the board.

Pyshnyi also said that the previously announced restrictions on p2p transfers for individuals caused a flurry of criticism and misunderstanding on the part of the regulator.

"We communicated the issue of these "drops" not only as a danger to the state budget, but also as a danger to individuals themselves. After all, when you give your data, card, and account to someone on the outside, you are responsible for everything that has been done with this account," emphasized Pyshnyi.

In addition, the tax service can charge additional taxes for transactions that took place through citizens' accounts.

Pyshnyi also added that the National Bank held several meetings with volunteers to show how the design of the planned solution would allow banks to take into account the needs of volunteers and answered questions.

"The degree of discussion has decreased. This means that we are organically approaching the decision that the NBU has communicated. One way or another, legislative changes are also needed to create additional tools to combat drop schemes more effectively. So, we need to go to the Parliament. There, we must be ready for the appropriate decision and discussion," said Pyshnyi.
