The Government is working on a new Labor Code
The European Business Association hosted a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.
The meeting was attended by Tetyana Berezhna, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine, and Oleg Hnatiuk, Deputy Director of the Labor Department - Head of the State Labor Policy Division of the Ministry of Economy.
Currently, a working group at the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine continues to work on the draft of the new Labor Code. It should replace the current Labor Code, which was adopted back in 1971 and does not meet modern realities. The draft Code has already taken into account numerous suggestions and comments from key stakeholders, and the Ministry of Economy team has also invited business representatives to discuss the document. The goal is to develop a common vision of the necessary solutions and changes in labor legislation that will improve the regulation of relations between employers and employees.
The meeting focused on the types of employment contracts, labor dispute resolution mechanisms, work and vacation regulation, etc.
Thus, the updated Labor Code proposes to provide for the following types of employment contracts: indefinite and fixed-term employment contracts, remote work contracts, home work contracts, employment contracts with non-fixed working hours, seasonal work contracts, student employment contracts and employment contracts with domestic workers. Each of these agreements, of course, has its own specifics of application, which was discussed at the meeting.
They also talked about resolving labor disputes, labor inspections, etc. Businesses also emphasized the importance of using electronic HR records.
The meeting participants agreed that by September of this year, EBA member companies can provide their suggestions and comments on the draft document by sending them to the Association. The Ministry of Economy, in turn, will consider all proposals and take them into account when finalizing the document.
