The Rada proposes to provide compensation to owners of cars damaged or destroyed during hostilities

Since February 24, 2022, Russia's full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine has been ongoing and has had severe consequences for all spheres. This includes significant damage to property. However, owners whose vehicles were damaged or destroyed in connection with the armed aggression have not been paid appropriate compensation, which needs to be addressed.

For this reason, the Verkhovna Rada registered a draft law No. 11001 dated 08.02.2024, which proposes to supplement the Civil Code of Ukraine with a provision to guarantee the right of affected citizens to receive compensation for damaged and destroyed vehicles as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

The draft law proposes to supplement the section "Final and Transitional Provisions" of the Civil Code of Ukraine with a provision to guarantee the right of affected citizens to receive compensation for damaged and destroyed vehicles as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

In particular, it is proposed to establish that compensation to the owner of a vehicle damaged or destroyed as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine shall be paid at the expense of the aggressor state, as well as funds received from the relevant funds for the restoration of Ukraine, including international, international technical and/or repayable or non-repayable financial assistance, and other sources provided for by law.

The procedure for determining and paying compensation for a damaged or destroyed vehicle as a result of armed aggression against Ukraine is established by the CMU.
