Amendments to the Tax Code will allow to shut down the schemes of illegal tobacco trafficking
The draft law No. 9662, adopted as a whole, amends the Tax Code of Ukraine and allows to block the schemes of illegal tobacco products trafficking on the Ukrainian market.
This was stated by MP, Chairman of the Servant of the People faction, member of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence David Arakhamia.
"The purpose of the draft law is to significantly reduce the share of illegal tobacco products in Ukraine. In each pack of cigarettes sold in Ukraine, 65% of the price is made up of taxes. Accordingly, a large illegal market for these excisable goods means significant losses for the budget, it means lost money that is now needed to finance our military," the parliamentarian noted.
He explained that the adopted draft law allows licensed producers to reduce the standards of so-called defective products.
"Globally, tobacco companies have a defect rate of about 2%, while ours was up to 15%. It is clear that this was a scheme that worked for many years, but today we have closed it. I hope the President will sign the bill as soon as possible and it will come into force," the MP emphasized.
