Zelensky offers cashback for buying Ukrainian goods

Ukrainians will be able to receive compensation for part of the payment for goods and services produced in the country. The Buy Ukrainian cashback program will be launched this year. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the presentation of the "Made in Ukraine" platform, an RBC-Ukraine correspondent reports.

"For the purchase of certain types of goods and services made in Ukraine, Ukrainian citizens will be able to receive a refund of part of the funds to a special card," he said.

According to him, the relevant government order is currently being developed, and the program should start working this year.

"These are taxes, these are the salaries of our soldiers, these are the capabilities of our state, including defense. We are already preparing the parameters of the Ukrainian cashback: financial and technical," Zelensky said.

Share of Ukrainian goods

The latest data from the State Statistics Service show that in 2020, the share of sales by retailers of goods produced in Ukraine increased to 53.4%. In 2019, the share of local goods was 52.4%, in 2018 - 53.2%, and in 2017 - 52.3%.

In 2020, the share of local food products was 79.4%, and the share of non-food products was 32.9%.

Among the food products, locally produced eggs accounted for 99.1% of sales, meat - 96.5%, butter - 95.1%, and milk - 94.0%. At the same time, local fresh fruits and vegetables accounted for 47.2% of the market.

Among non-food products, the smallest percentage is occupied by domestic computers - 3.7%, cars - 1.8%, and mobile phones - 0.2%.

What is cashback?

Cashback is a loyalty program provided by some banks and companies that allows users to receive a portion of the money back for purchases made using certain bank cards or services.

The principle of a cashback system is usually the following: a user makes purchases using a certain bank card or through special affiliate programs, and a certain percentage of the purchase amount is returned to his or her account in the form of cashback.

The amount of cashback usually depends on the terms of the program and the category of purchase. For example, cashback can be higher for certain categories of expenses, such as purchases in supermarkets, restaurants, or under certain conditions, such as the first purchase after card activation.

Cashback has become a popular way to attract and retain customers.
