Parliament to consider an agricultural bill that will favor the defense industry
The relevant parliamentary committee has recommended that the Verkhovna Rada consider draft law No. 10427-1 on simplifying the circulation of cotton seeds, which are needed for gunpowder production.
This was announced by the initiator of the draft law, MP from the Servant of the People faction, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy Stepan Cherniavsky.
"Cotton fiber is 75-85% pure natural cellulose. The annual demand of Ukraine's defense sector for pulp for gunpowder production is 10 thousand tons. Cotton crops on an area of about 30 thousand hectares can provide the necessary amount of raw materials for the production of this volume of pulp," explained Cherniavsky.
He emphasized that cotton is an important crop for use in industries that contribute to our struggle and defense. Therefore, the Parliament has developed a draft law that will speed up the registration of cotton varieties.
"After signing the law, the registration of varieties will take place within a month instead of 2-3 years, as provided by the current legislation. Also, the adoption of this bill will allow us to attract $30-50 million in investments in the raw cotton plant. The initial capacity of the plant will be 1.5 thousand tons of raw material per year with a further increase in production to 6 thousand tons," the MP concluded.
