The State Tax Service is studying international practice of resuming work on tax debt after the lifting of martial law

As part of the implementation of the Work Plan for 2023-2024, at the initiative of the U.S. Department of the Treasury (Treasury), the Technical Assistance Office, representatives of the State Tax Service of Ukraine took part in working meetings that lasted from April 8 to 12, 2024.

The purpose of the events was to study the international practice of resuming work in the field of tax debt collection after the lifting of martial law. Participation in this program contributes to the improvement and enhancement of debt collection from taxpayers in bankruptcy proceedings.

The Office of Technical Assistance has proposed to extend the general concept of operations (CONOPS) for 2025-2026, which will determine the desired future state of tax debt management by the State Tax Service.

In turn, the State Tax Service noted the importance of cooperation with the Technical Assistance Office, as today the tax authorities are focused on developing recommendations for working with tax debt, especially its collection in bankruptcy proceedings.

Thanks to such measures, the STS is improving and increasing its capacity to improve its tax debt collection activities, providing useful ways to move from the current to the anticipated future state.
