The Cabinet of Ministers has raised the electricity tariff for households

Ukrainian families must stay in the light. Increasing the electricity tariff is a difficult but necessary step.

At a meeting on May 31, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a decision to extend the provision on the imposition of special obligations (PSO) on electricity market participants, which sets a single fixed price for individual and collective household consumers at UAH 4.32/kWh until April 30, 2025. This was announced by Energy Minister Herman Glushchenko following the meeting.

In addition, during the heating period (from October 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025), a preferential tariff for consumers using electric heating installations is provided at the level of UAH 2.64/kWh (if they consume up to 2000 kWh of electricity per month during this period).

At the same time, the "night tariff " (with the appropriate two-zone meter installed) will be UAH 2.16 per kWh.

"The tariff increase is a difficult but necessary step. The goal is not to be left without electricity, to maintain the system. We are facing a large-scale reconstruction that will require huge efforts and funds. All this time, the repair campaign at generation, distribution and transmission facilities has been ongoing. Unfortunately, we understand that the enemy will continue shelling energy facilities, and we must use all possible resources," said Herman Halushchenko.

If Russia hadn't systematically destroyed Ukraine's energy infrastructure, he added, tariffs would have remained unchanged so far.

The minister noted that in the difficult economic situation due to the war, it is impossible to allow the price of electricity for households to rise to the market level (almost 7.5 UAH/kWh), but the state is not able to maintain an extremely low preferential price for all consumers. After all, the electricity tariff of UAH 2.64 covered only a third of the real cost of electricity.

"State support should be fair and targeted at those who really need it. Those who cannot afford to pay for electricity services at the new tariff will receive assistance from the state in the form of targeted subsidies," the Energy Minister emphasized.

With an average monthly electricity consumption of 170 kWh, the electricity bill will increase by UAH 285.
