The Parliament supported the increase in excise taxes on fuel in the first reading
The Verkhovna Rada has supported in the first reading a bill that would increase the excise tax on fuel. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Telegram of MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
"The Rada still supported in the first reading an alternative bill No. 11256-2 on increasing the excise tax on fuel," Zheleznyak wrote.
According to him, the bill was supported by 227 MPs.
It is worth noting that the draft law No. 11256-2 is an alternative to the draft laws No. 11256 and No. 11256-1, which were rejected by the MPs.
Increase in excise taxes on fuel
In March, the Cabinet of Ministers submitted draft laws to the Verkhovna Rada to increase excise taxes on alcohol, fuel and tobacco products to ensure additional revenues to the state budget.
On May 31, the Parliamentary Committee on Finance supported the increase in excise taxes on fuel.
As stated in the explanatory note to the draft law No. 11256, Directive No. 2003/96/EC provides for much higher excise tax rates on petroleum products than in Ukraine.
The draft sets out a schedule of annual increases in such rates from July 1, 2024 to December 31, 2027 (for four years).
As a result, starting from January 1, 2028, the following excise tax rates are proposed to be set for the main types of fuel: for gasoline - EUR 359 per 1000 liters, for gas oil (diesel fuel) - EUR 330 per 1000 liters, for liquefied gas - EUR 277 per 1000 liters.
In particular, starting July 1, gasoline prices will increase from EUR 215.5 to EUR 242.6. This will lead to a 1.50 hryvnia per liter increase in the price of gasoline at the pump.
Diesel fuel rates will increase from 139.5 euros to 177.6 euros. This will result in a UAH 1.95 increase in the price of diesel at the pump.
Autogas rates will increase from 52 to 165 euros. This will result in a 5.8 hryvnia increase in the price of diesel at the pump.
