President signs law on support for bookstores and book certificates

On June 17, the President signed the Law of Ukraine on clarifying the activities of the Ukrainian Book Institute to support distributors of publishing products and provide state aid for the purchase of books (draft law No. 11251).

"So, this year, Ukrainians who turn 18 on January 1, 2024, will receive a certificate in Diia for UAH 908 for electronic / paper / audio / books for the visually impaired. Thus, the money allocated from the accounts of our youth will go to support Ukrainian publishers.

As they say, everyone will be happy: young Ukrainians will receive books in the Ukrainian language of their choice, and publishers, according to preliminary estimates, will be able to publish an additional 1.5-2 million copies for this money," commented Yevhenia Kravchuk, Deputy Head of the Committee.

Another important point is that after the law is clarified, subsidies for reimbursement of rent for bookstore premises will be available.

The law sets out a clear procedure for granting subsidies: a list of documents (plus now it will be possible to submit duly certified copies), the deadlines for reviewing applications (10 days) and publishing the results (5 days).

All payments have already been provided for in the budget, and there will be no additional costs from the state treasury.
