The Parliament raised the excise tax on fuel

The Parliament passed the draft law No. 11256-2 on increasing the excise tax on fuel.

There were 231 votes in favor.

The increase will take place in 5 stages: from September 1, 2024, January 1, 2025, January 1, 2026, January 1, 2027, and January 1, 2028.

According to MP Nina Yuzhanina, during this time, 1 liter of gasoline will increase in price by 8 hryvnias, diesel by 10.5 hryvnias, and liquefied gas by 11 hryvnias.

"And this is assuming an unchanged hryvnia to euro exchange rate (because we buy fuel in euros and excise rates are also in euros).

Consequences:

  • Increased prices for gasoline, diesel, and liquefied gas;
  • increase in prices for absolutely ALL goods and services;
  • loss of competitiveness of domestic goods in all markets;
  • increase in inflation;
  • reduction in the purchasing power of the population," the MP writes.
