Obtaining work permits for foreigners: what do you need to know?

In order to employ foreign nationals, an employer must obtain a work permit for foreigners and stateless persons. Such a permit is issued for a period of 6 months to 3 years.

What employers should know about obtaining a work permit for foreigners:

  • documents drawn up in a foreign language must be translated into Ukrainian;
  • the application for the service must be submitted in person or through a legal representative. A legal entity or an individual entrepreneur may apply.

Application forms for obtaining, extending or amending a work permit for foreigners must be signed by the head of a legal entity or an individual entrepreneur.

You can order the service

  • through an administrative service center (ASC);
  • by sending a postal item with a list of attachments;
  • through the employer's electronic cabinet on the official website of the State Employment Service;
  • directly at the employment center.

"This year, about 1,100 employers in Kyiv have already submitted 2,850 applications for obtaining, extending and amending work permits for foreigners and stateless persons. As a result of the review, about 2500 permits were issued. A work permit is mandatory for most categories of foreign workers," said Dmytro Novytskyi, director of the Kyiv City Employment Center.

At the same time, it should be noted that there are categories of foreign citizens

who do not need a work permit.
