The BES will be granted new powers: Government approves draft law

During a regular meeting of the Government on November 12, the draft Law "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine on Improving Legal Regulation of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine" was approved.

The draft law proposes to amend a number of laws of Ukraine in order to extend their individual provisions to the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine, namely

• to grant the right to officials of the inquiry unit or authorized persons of another unit of the BES authorized to conduct pre-trial investigation of criminal offenses to request state specialized institutions to obtain a specialist's opinion when clarifying the circumstances of a criminal offense
• to provide for the disclosure by the insurer, at the written request of the BES, of information constituting an insurance secret in the event of criminal proceedings against an individual or officials of a legal entity;
• to supplement the powers of military-civilian and military administrations with the authority to facilitate the activities of the BES;
• to authorize the temporary investigative commission of the Verkhovna Rada to involve BES employees in the investigation.
