850 ml bottles of milk will become a thing of the past: the price will be indicated per liter and kilogram

The Verkhovna Rada has registered a draft law that would introduce European standards for the sale of food in Ukraine. The price will be indicated by kilogram, liter, and meter. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to draft law No. 12358.

The document provides for the implementation of Directive 98/6/EC of the European Parliament and of the European Council on the protection of consumer rights when indicating prices for goods offered to consumers.

The text of the draft law is not yet available on the Rada's website.

However, Directive 98/6/EC of February 16, 1998 contains the following provisions:

  • (a) selling price means the final price for a unit of a product or for a specified quantity of a product, including VAT and other taxes;
  • (b) unit price means the final price, including VAT and other taxes, for one kilogram, one liter, one meter, one square meter or one cubic meter of a product or for another unit of measurement which is generally in common use in the Member State concerned for the sale of particular products;
  • (c) products sold in bulk means unpackaged products that are measured in the presence of the consumer.

In addition, one of the authors of the draft law, MP Dmytro Hurin, previously reported that the draft law would define the conditions for selling products by the kilogram, liter, meter, square meter, or cubic meter.

It is worth noting that some retail chains in Ukraine are already indicating the price per kilogram.
