On the legislative initiative in the field of environmental protection
Implementation of a new model of state environmental control, creation of a Ukrainian greenhouse gas emissions trading system, and fulfillment of environmental obligations for Ukraine's accession to the EU. In 2025, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management will continue environmental reforms.
This was announced by the head of the committee, MP from the Servant of the People party, Oleh Bondarenko.
According to him, the Environmental Committee's work plans for 2025 include a number of legislative initiatives aimed at protecting the environment and fulfilling our obligations for Ukraine's accession to the EU.
"These include the development of waste management, the introduction of a new model of state environmental control, legislative regulation of the creation of the Emerald Network and nature reserve fund objects, regulation of forestry activities, and the creation of a Ukrainian system of greenhouse gas emissions trading," Bondarenko said.
The parliamentarian also recalled important environmental bills adopted in 2024:
► Draft Law No. 3855-IX on integrated prevention and control of industrial pollution. It will help, among other things, to reduce the impact of industrial discharges and emissions on the health of Ukrainian citizens, and to gradually transition to modern environmentally friendly green technologies.
► Draft Law No. 3991-IX on the Basic Principles of State Climate Policy. It is aimed at ensuring low-carbon and sustainable development of Ukraine, achieving climate neutrality of Ukraine by 2050, and fulfilling international commitments in the field of climate change.
► Draft Law No. 6227 on updating the National Program for the Development of the Mineral Resources Base of Ukraine until 2030 and regulating certain issues related to minerals and components of strategic and critical importance.
"In 2024, the Committee, together with the Ministry of Ecology, continued reforms to preserve the environment, create the basis for Ukraine's recovery, fulfill the country's European integration commitments, and develop opportunities for attracting investment while reducing the environmental impact of industry," summarized Oleg Bondarenko.
