What to do if money is stolen from your card

To protect your cards, you should follow the following recommendations: do not disclose your PIN, CVV code, card expiration date, or online banking passwords to anyone ;set limits on transactions and activate SMS notifications for all transactions ; and do not make payments from other people's devices. As soon as you discover that your bank card has been debited without your knowledge, you should block the card as soon as possible. You can do this

• via online banking
• call the bank's hotline
• visit the nearest bank branch in person.

If you are sure that you have not disclosed confidential information to anyone

Contact the bank. Write a request for a refund of the money written off.

The bank must conduct an internal investigation and may refund the funds if the debiting was not really the customer's fault.

If the bank does not return the funds, you can go to court.

If you disclosed confidential information on your own

For example, access to online banking or transferred card details to unauthorized persons or even your friends. This is a violation of the terms of the agreement with the bank and the rules for using a bank card. It will be much more difficult or impossible to get the money back.

What you can do

Report the crime to thepolice. The investigator is obliged to immediately, but not later than 24 hours after filing a report of a criminal offense, enter the relevant information into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations, initiate an investigation and provide the applicant with an extract from the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations within 24 hours of entering such information.

If the attacker is found and his or her guilt is proven in court, the victims are entitled to compensation for material and moral damages. To do so, a lawsuit is filed in court.
